Principle photography began in California in March 2018 and ended in Louisiana in July 2018.

Robertson-Dworet was quickly engaged to rewrite the script, and by the time production began, the remainder of the actors had been added. Larson was cast as Danvers at San Diego Comic-Con in 2016, and Boden and Fleck were recruited to direct in April 2017. After presenting distinct perspectives on the character, Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve were recruited to script the film the following April, and used aspects from Roy Thomas’ 1971 “Kree”Skrull War” comic book narrative. It was revealed in October 2014 that it will be Marvel Studios’ first female-led superhero picture. The film’s production began in May of 2013. The story follows Danvers as she becomes Captain Marvel when Earth becomes embroiled in a cosmic battle between two extraterrestrial civilizations in 1995.
